Photos and story were generously supplied by David Kucko in Powder Springs, Georgia. What a fabulous restoration. Especially significant since the boat has been in his family for so long! Thank you Dave!
“I wanted to share some photos of my just completed cosmetic restoration on twin 1958 Evinrude 35hp Larks. These are installed on a 1960 18’ Lyman outboard that my father ordered new in 1959. He ordered it specially equipped to handle the twin outboards that he bought separately and then installed on the hull himself. This boat was built and intended for use on Lake Erie. It has been in our family since the day it was delivered from the dealer and has been well used through the years. ”
“After almost 60 yrs. of use the engines were showing signs of wear and tear so I embarked on a year long cosmetic overhaul. The powerheads did not need torn down as all cylinders are still showing 115 psi compression…..almost as good as new from the factory!! So, this was strictly a cosmetic restoration with new gaskets and seals throughout. All parts were purchased from marineengine.com. Thank you for your vast inventory and excellent customer service and quick shipments! ”
“FYI….the cowlings on both these engines are completely original and have never had any paint or restoration work done on them!”
Note from MarineEngine.com: Thanks again to Dave for sharing these photos of this beautiful restoration.
